Military Asset Tracking

Does your Military base rely on manual or outmoded technical processes to track and monitor high value assets and mission-critical resources such as vehicles, key personnel, equipment and medical supplies? The only way to achieve the precision, efficiency and cost-effectiveness that are critical to the success of Military operations, is to deploy a highly automated, real-time asset tracking and maintenance solution that gives you total visibility and control.

Smarter Technologies Orion Data Network solutions for the Military utilise RFID and GPS technology to covertly and overtly track, monitor and recover Military assets from supply chain to field deployment.

You can dispense with manual processes and legacy technology, saving both time and money and maximising efficiency and accuracy. Orion solutions for the Military, including our B360 Asset Tracker, are compatible with mobile devices, Bar Coding, UID Codes and a variety of RFID Technologies. These solutions enable fuel sensing, generator, supply chain and inventory management; Military personnel security and protection; high value freight, vehicle and document monitoring and asset theft and damage prevention for the Army, Navy and Air Force.

B360 for Military Grade High Value Asset Tracking, Monitoring and Recovery

Military Asset Control & Accountability

Military operations are renowned for precision, focus, efficiency and accuracy. However, recent research by Reuters has shown that reliance on legacy technology and manual processes mean that it can be challenging for internal administration to reflect the same level of excellence.

A unnecessary amount of the Military budget is taken up with maintenance, re-purchasing, loss, damage and theft of critical assets. Smarter Technologies Group have created asset tracking, monitoring and recovery solutions with real time data, reporting and alerts via the state of the art Orion Data Network, to combat these challenges. The Orion Data Network will give your Military base 24/7, 360-degree visibility over all your assets and our solutions are up to 75% more cost effective than those of other providers. Orion enables you to save invaluable time and money and take full control and accountability for all your Military vehicles, equipment, key personnel, technology, vessels and medical supplies.

Orion Data Network Solutions for the Military

The sheer volume of high value assets in the Military means that traditional GPS tracking solutions lack the required scalability and efficiency. The Orion Data Network offers unlimited scalability and accuracy, a broader range of applications, top level security and better cost efficiencies than any other asset management solution in the market place.

Benefits of RFID Technology

The first to market solution of its type, it combines the power of the Internet of Things with both Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and GPS technology. The benefits of RFID over GPS, is that GPS relies on a line of sight connection between a tracker and your assets, whereas RFID does not. Orion solutions are equally reliable for both long and short-range tracking, meaning that you can control your assets wherever they are located globally – even when your operations and manoeuvres are in very remote areas.

Tags & Gateways

An Orion tag is attached to the Military asset, key personnel or canine unit that you wish to track and monitor. Each tag has its own unique identification number. The tag broadcasts this number to an Orion gateway. This captures the id and passes the information to middleware that collects and organises the data to create customised reports based on the data that is most important to you in respect of each Military asset. There is also a beacon mode that can transmit the assets id to a hand-held RFID reader so that you can track your assets to their exact location on foot or in a vehicle. Solutions can be either active and battery operated or passive, which do not require a battery. The battery life is extensive with up to 3 or 5 years usage, depending on the solution. When the battery is low and needs recharging, Orion sends you an automatic alert.

Limitless Military Application

Orion has virtually limitless applications as it can be connected to a huge variety of different sensor technologies. For example, in addition to location tracking, we can create perimeter security solutions, devices that alert you in the event of container and content tampering and solutions that warn you when an asset is damaged through shock or impact. Temperature, moisture levels, gas emissions, movement, pressure and fuel and water levels can all be measured.

Alerts and reports are conveyed in real-time via test message or email to the full range of mobile devices. Orion is the embodiment of Smarter Technologies Group’s mission to create the most innovative asset tracking, monitoring, recovery, and security technology and solutions, to help the governments, businesses and communities of today create smarter, greener, secure and more connected cities for tomorrow.

Benefits of Orion Solutions for the Military

In recent years, there has been a spotlight on internal operations in the Military. With regard to the US Military, for example, Reuters released a report a couple of years ago showing that manual asset tracking processes, prone to human error, resulted in the Military spending its budget on new supplies that were not needed and on storing old supplies that were out of date and ready for disposal. In 2014, ABC news also reported that inefficient asset tracking, monitoring and recovery resulted in 15,600 pieces of missing equipment valued at approximately $419.5 million. These issues not only adversely affect the Defence budget; the repercussions can be far more serious if these inefficiencies lead to equipment shortages that negatively impact training, special operations or emergency response. It’s important that Military units take the same highly organised and efficient approach to internal operations as they do to defending their country. A successful solution needs to seamlessly link people, vehicles, equipment, vessels and medical supplies even in the most remote locations outside of cellular range.

Individual Military bases are accountable to their government for the property that’s assigned to them. When asset tracking data is entered manually into spreadsheets there is a high risk of costly errors and it’s impossible to enter the data in real time. This means the available information is never really up to date and you cannot be sure where your assets are and what condition they are in. It’s impossible to accurately deploy your assets, calculate depreciation or predict maintenance schedules. This is information that needs to be highly accurate and available to all relevant personnel, not just a couple of people who are responsible for inventory and data entry. Automating your Military asset tracking eliminates the risk of human error and the potential for fraudulent data to be entered.
